Around Town

Monday, my daughter and I went to a bunch of nurseries after picking up the jade cuttings. Here are a few things we found. Along the way back into town we found some aloe blooming in some body's yard.

This set the pace for the rest of the day. I have been seeing a lot of blooming aloes online lately on The Garden Forums, so it wasn't much of a surprise when we got to see some in real life. First to the bank. Trader Joe's has a lovely succulent planter next to the sidewalk.

We started out at Farm Supply in SLO. While DD took pictures of aloes and others, (I think I have a budding photographer on my hands. )

I snagged a couple choice agave, Agave americana medio picta alba, and Agave Mr Ripples. was told up in the Bay area these would cost $30, I got them for $10.

Then to Cal Poly SLO. Not much there in the lines of houseplants, but I did find a nice Brylophyllum.

Then on to Grow in Cambria. Nick is a cool guy. Some lovely plants we got and a couple of rescues. These two were poor plants we took pity on, a Dischidia and an Hoya.

These two Hoyas I could not pass up, Hoya multiflora and Hoya polyneura.

I even got a nice Aeoneum lindleyi because I have some euphorbias. and as we were leaving Nick gave me a branch of Crassula Campfire.

DD even got a few gems, some lithops. Nick was so kind to give them to her.

She went to town on properly caring for them by feeding them, lol :)

Then we headed home.

Yesterday, we went to Arroyo Grande to pick up Echeverias (see previous blog post) Then we went to Ron's Nursery. DD once again took pictures. This one is a gem. I love how the bottle fly accents the flower.

Then we headed to Oceano Nursery, to my surprise it was finally closed down. A good thing is I found the owner at another nursery unloading his goods. this guy is on my watch list. I'm going to pick him up once he breaks dormancy. He sure is b'ugly, but he has potential.

A stop by Coldstone Creamery in Atascadero proved to be fruitless, it was closed down, so to Paso Robles for ice cream and Starbucks, then another trip home. Now I'm broke but happy, I have new plants, which cost me only gas, (that's a lot though) and time. Next week we'll be back to pick up agave pups on freecycle.

I forgot to add that while looking for my wardian case, I found a couple gems which I'd forgot about. I was given them when we were in San Diego. They have been unpotted for who knows how long, and the mam bloomed while under cover. Amazing things, succulent plants.
